1. Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf [Orgasmatron Remix]

Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf [12" version]
Duran Duran - Wild Boys [12" version]

Someone suggested Carty try his hand at some non-Ant remixes, and this was a fun mix to do back in 2002.  Today he'd remix this very differently, but it brings a smile when he hears it. Although there are no plans to re-do this remix, feel free to email and beg him to do it. You have to admit, this sounds a little dated.

"Considering this was 2002, I still love this, as it has all the ingredients for a monster remix. The end result hasn't stood the test of time, I suppose, but if I ever did try this again, I'd certainly keep some the same ideas in the final result. It would just be much more slicker."

2. Tori Amos - China [Getting Close Remix]
[05:20]
Free Download
James Brown - Funky Drummer [Bonus Beats]
Tori Amos - China [album version]

Purely a selfish choice of song for Carty to remix back in 2002 and one of two different mixes finished.  The song itself was full of meaning and reflected his life at the time.  This was dedicated to Adrienne.

"The Funky Drummer drum loop is one the most inspiration four bars of music ever. For me anyway. If I could get away with using it in ever mix, I would. Well, maybe every time."

"The problem with this mix, listening 10 years on, is that the Tori tracks needs to be re-sampled. The software back then was rather limited in its capabilities. So even though I could improve on this, I have no plans at all to touch this tune again."

3. Various - Ketchup Fast Barbie Megmix [Carty Mix]
[11:44]
Free Download
Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight
Das Ketchup - Asereje (The Ketchup Song)
Fast Food Rockers - Fast Food Song
Aqua - Barbie Girl

Carty asked his (then) 5 year old daughter to name her favourite three songs and the list above displays her choice. He added Rapper's Delight to the mix to make it smoother. It's cheesy but perfect for the job. Of this mix, Carty today says:

"I used to love doing mixes like this as they reflected how I used to mix live in the clubs. It's just a lot neater done in the studio. I added the Rapper's Delight verse after hearing how similar the Ketchup Song's chorus was to it. I'm also sure I may have sampled a Michelle Gayle track in the intro. I can't recall now. It's been 9 years since I did this! 2003 was decades ago!"

Dedicated to Holly.

4. Act - Snobbery & Decay [Rags To Riches Remix]
[10:53]
Free Download
Act - Snobbery & Decay [That's Entertainment 12"]
Act - Snobbery & Decay [Extended 12"]
Act - Snobbery & Decay [Moonlighting 12"]

Carty's a self-confessed ZTT fan, and this was one of the better acts from the label that spawned Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Seal and Propaganda. Snobbery & Decay remains to him, the hit that never was. Looking back, Carty recalls:

"Snobbery & Decay should have been a massive hit! It was even featured on BBC TV's Tomorrow's World. I have no idea why this never really made it. The various 12 inch mixes were brilliant. I kind of brought them all together for this rather long (and typical) remix. I really loved doing this. This must have been 2003, and it would be much slicker if I attempted this today."

Act comprised of Claudia Brücken (formerly of Propaganda) and Thomas Leer.

5. Ronan Keating - She Believes (In Me) [Vicster Remix]

Ronan Keating - She Believes (In Me) [album version]

This was made for a (then) work colleague of Carty's called Vicky after she had told him her favourite song from her favourite artist. A Dub Mix was also created and put onto her very own personal CD.

"I found it strange talking about my remixing exploits to my day job colleagues. You could see the look of disbelief in their faces. Vicky was one of them. A huge Ronan fan. The only way I could prove it was to remix her favourite tune. A ballad too! I hate remixing ballads! So I decided to house it up. I have to say, back in 2004, when this was made, I hated the song, but was well pleased with the remix. Not sure what Vicky made of it, hehe!"

6. Gwen Stefani vs Lene Lovich - Waiting For My Lucky Number [Carty Mix]
[04:05]

Gwen Stefani vs Lene Lovich
Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For [acapella]
Lene Lovich - Lucky Number

This mix was made as Carty thought Gwen's vocal style sounded very similar to Lene's:

"Oh yes, one my favourite mashups. I remember listening to the acapella of Stefani's What You Waiting For and realising how much like Lene Lovich she sounded. So I had to try and make these two fit! It was a tough one to do, but one I still love to listen to today."

A Carty remix completed in 2005, it had since been remastered and sent to DMC for inclusion in their monthly DJ only mix CD's. It never made it, probably due to a similar DMC mashup featuring Girls Aloud's Sound Of The Underground (which Carty had not heard beforehand). It's called "horny" for a reason. He remembers:

"Back 2005, DMC had included my Rachel Stevens vs Adam Ant mashup on their monthly DJ Only CDs. I was shocked, stunned and a few hundred quid richer. This then inspired me to create more remixes and mashups and mail them off to Pete Roberts at DMC. Not one of them were successful, although Pete showed interest in some."

"However, I'm not surprise this was rejected as a similar track had already appeared on their albums, and this was too similar. I remember posting this on some mashups/bootleg forum, and the comments all related to them expecting to hear Girls Aloud's Sound Of The Underground pop up in my mix. When I played the DMC version, I could see why. Foiled again!"
