1. Adam Ant - Wonderful [Funky Remix]
[05:00]

James Brown - Funky Drummer [Bonus Beats]
Adam Ant - Wonderful [Bob Clearmountain's Unedited Mix]

Carty's first ever PC-based remix (before that, they were all on cassette) was a rather simplistic idea back in 2001. Laying a drum loop over the top of a song, it took just ten minutes (i.e. two takes). There was no editing, or computer-controlled beat-matching at this time. This is why, if you listen carefully, you can hear Carty 'nudge' the Funky Drummer beats back in time as they drift out slightly.

Despite its age, the remix remains popular with fans, although Carty has recreated a new version of this mix, Wonderful Dream, in which he adds Beautiful Dream and a sprinkling of Headgear. You can find this on Carty Mixes Vol 11.

2. Adam & The Ants - Stand & Deliver [Light Blue Stagecoach Remix]

Bomb The Bass - Beat Dis [Bonus Beats]
Adam & The Ants - Stand & Deliver [single version]

Carty was a club DJ in the late 80s and early 90s and a big fan of the sample culture at that time. Tracks by M|A|R|R|S, Simon Harris, L.A. Mix, Richie Rich and Bomb The Bass were as much of an influence as Adam & The Ants were a decade earlier. He realised that the drum pattern to Bomb The Bass' Beat Dis was identical to Stand & Deliver's (albeit much slower). An remix idea was born.

Having discovered some new mixing software in 2001 (called Remix by Steinberg, which later morphed into Ableton Live which Carty still uses today), Carty created some loops from Stand & Deliver and overlayed the drum track from Beat Dis. He hit a problem, as he had no idea how to cut and edit a sound file on the PC. After some tips from a couple of Ant chums, the remix was edited using Goldwave (which he also uses today) into the mammoth nine minute monster we have today. (Yes, it's too damn long!)

Carty was never 100% happy with this remix and was to recreate it again on Carty Mixes Volume 7, and yet again on Carty Mixes Volume 10!

3. Adam & The Ants - Kick! [New Pair Of Kickers Remix]
[03:47]

Adam & The Ants - Kick! [single B-side version]
Adam & The Ants - Kick [Antmusic EP version]

Initially attempted in 2001 using two vinyl copies, and then on the PC in 2002. This mash-up alternates between the Cartrouble B-side and Antmusic EP versions of Kick, ending with a tribal four-versed track, as opposed to the original two verses.

Carty remade this mix using the newly remastered original Do It version of Kick, which ended up on Carty Mixes Volume 8.

4. Adam & The Ants - Puerto Rican [Extended Matchstick Remix]

Adam & The Ants - Puerto Rican [BBC John Peel Session]
This is just simply an extended remix of the classic John Peel session track taken from the Complete Radio 1 Sessions CD released in 2001. It was a spur of the moment mix after a phone conversation Carty had with Amanda Jacques (a.k.a. Millie), and completed that same night. It was her fave track at the time. This was created live in just one take using loops to extend the non-vocal segments of the tune. Simple but effective.

5. Adam Ant - Navel To Neck [New Boob Job Remix]
[12:20]
Free Download
Adam Ant - Navel To Neck [album version]
Adam & The Ants - 'Antmusic' [album version]
Adam & The Ants - Kings Of The Wild Frontier [single version]
Adam & The Ants - Kings Of The Wild Frontier [first version]

Carty's favourite track on the Strip album, mainly due to those Burundi drums. Combining it with Kings Of The Wild Frontier and 'Antmusic' was too tempting to ignore. Probably Carty's most prepared remix ever, which also explains it's rather long length!

Ideas used in this remix have appeared in a number of Carty mixes, including a remix of a Fatboy Slim track, a Rachel Stevens/Adam Ant mashup and a remade version of this remix on Carty Mixes Volume 7.

6. Adam Ant vs Will Smith - Men In Black [Black Ant Mix]
[03:55]
Free Download
Adam Ant - Puss 'n Boots [12" version]
Will Smith - Men In Black [acapella]
Adam & The Ants - Making History [album version]
Adam Ant - Can't Set Rules About Love [album version]
Adam Ant - Beautiful Dream [single version]
Adam & The Ants - Family Of Noise [album version]
Adam & The Ants - Killer In The Home [album version]
Adam & The Ants - Young Parisians [single version]
Adam Ant - Crackpot History And The Right To Lie [album version]
Adam & The Ants - 5 Guns West [album version]
Adam Ant - Persuasion [album version]

Back in 2002, Carty was trying to explain to his (then) future wife, Tex, how a mash-up using an acapella over the top of an instrumental works. He sent her one featuring Eminem's acapella of Slim Shady mixed with the instrumental of Oops! I Did It Again by Britney Spears and she loved it. The challenge was on...

Carty rummaged through his collection of acapellas and set about using Will Smith's Men In Black with a selection of Ant loops of around the same tempo. The result sounded great at the time. A version without the Will Smith vocal was produced at the request of Steve Horwood, which ended up as the opening track on Carty Mixes Volume 2. Carty has thought about revisiting this mix ten years on, in 2012. Only time will tell.

7. Adam Ant - Persuasion [Full Album Megamix]
[23:40]
Free Download
Adam Ant - Little Devil
Adam Ant - Obsession
Adam Ant - Charge Of The Heavy Brigade
Adam Ant - Headgear
Adam Ant - Brain Candy
Adam Ant - Survivor Of The Fetish
Adam Ant - Persuasion
Adam Ant - Sexatise You
Adam Ant - Don't Knock It ('Til You Got It)
Adam Ant - Seems To Me
Adam Ant - All Girl Action

This megamix had already been completed a year earlier, but iIt was in a studio using two copies of the CD and two MiniDisc players. But because of limits on editing capabilities, the final quality of that megamix was just not good enough! (Hence one reason for Carty purchasing the mixing software). This megamix has no extra loops nor effects. It's just straight mixing from one track to the other, adjusting the BPM as it progresses.

After many months of frustration in the studio, the Persuasion Megamix is unveiled courtesy of one long, late night on the PC! All eleven tracks from Adam's 1993 unreleased MCA album are here, with each track getting at list two minutes exposure. The tempo of the album tracks varies considerably and therefore some adjustments are made to keep the smooth momentum throughout! A mammoth task back in 2002, but very worthwhile!

Saying that it does have a few rough edges and those may result in a remake in the future, but for now, that's all you get.
